Gas Services and Repairs — Licensed Gas Fitter

Gas work is not a job for a handyman. In NSW it is illegal for unlicensed people to carry out gas fitting, and for good reason — a badly installed appliance or an undetected leak risks fire, explosion and carbon monoxide poisoning. Accurate Plumbing is a licensed gas fitter (Lic. No. L55) serving the Sutherland Shire since 1965, handling gas installations, services and repairs to Australian Standards.

Smell Gas? Act Now

If you smell gas (that deliberate rotten-egg odour) or hear hissing near an appliance or meter:
  1. Don’t touch any electrical switches — not lights, not power points, not your garage door. A spark is all it takes.
  2. Open doors and windows to ventilate.
  3. Turn off the gas at the meter if you can reach it safely.
  4. Get everyone outside, then call from outside the house.
  5. Call us on 0418 472 962 — or in an emergency, call the gas emergency line or 000.
Never try to locate a gas leak yourself with a naked flame.

Why Licensing Matters for Gas Work

Anyone can buy a gas appliance. Legally connecting it is another matter — NSW requires a licensed gas fitter, and the work must comply with AS/NZS 5601 gas installation standards.

The practical consequences of unlicensed gas work go beyond the fine. Home insurance can be voided if a claim traces back to non-compliant gas work. Appliance manufacturer warranties generally require licensed installation. And when you sell, non-compliant gas work can hold up the sale.

We issue a compliance certificate for gas installation work, so you have documentation the job was done properly.

Warning Signs Your Gas Appliance Needs Service

Book a service if you notice:
  • Yellow or orange flames instead of clean blue — a sign of incomplete combustion producing carbon monoxide
  • Soot or black marks around a heater or cooktop
  • A pilot light that won’t stay lit
  • Excess condensation on windows when a flued heater is running
  • Headaches, nausea or drowsiness when the heater is on — leave the house and call immediately
  • A gas bill that’s climbed with no change in usage — often an undetected leak
