Drainage Plumber
Drainage Plumber — Blocked Drains & Sewer Clearing
Signs You Have a Blocked Sewer
- Multiple slow drains at once — one slow sink is a local blockage; several means the main sewer line
- Gurgling sounds from toilets or drains when water runs elsewhere
- Water rising in the shower when the washing machine empties
- A sewage smell in the yard, bathroom or near the overflow gully
- Water pooling around the overflow relief gully outside — this is the warning system doing its job
- Toilets emptying slowly or needing a double flush
If sewage is already backing up, stop using water in the house and call us straight away.
Our Drainage Services
As a full drainage plumber we handle the whole job, not just the quick clear:
- Blocked drain and sewer clearing — electric eel and high-pressure jetting
- Tree root removal — cutting roots back and treating the line
- CCTV drain inspection — a camera down the line shows exactly what and where the problem is
- Sewer pipe repair and replacement — for collapsed, cracked or root-damaged sections
- Blocked toilets, sinks, showers and floor wastes
- Stormwater drain clearing — separate from sewer, but blocks just as often
Why Sutherland Shire Drains Block: Tree Roots
In this area, tree roots cause the majority of sewer blockages we attend — and it’s a matter of housing age meeting local vegetation.
Homes built before the 1980s were plumbed with vitrified clay sewer pipes laid in short sections with mortar joints. Over 40–60 years those joints shift and hairline-crack. Meanwhile the Shire’s mature gums, figs, camphor laurels and liquidambars send roots hunting for water — and a cracked sewer joint is the most reliable water source in a dry Sydney summer. A single root hair gets in, then thickens into a root mass that catches every bit of paper and grease that passes.
That’s why simply rodding the line out often isn’t enough. If roots are the cause, we recommend a CCTV inspection so you can see the condition of the pipe and decide whether to keep clearing it every year or repair the section properly.
Other common causes: cooking fat and grease solidifying in the line, wet wipes (they don’t break down, whatever the packet says), sanitary products, and ground movement cracking pipes.
Local Drainage Plumber Since 1965
Sixty years working on the same streets means we usually know what we’ll find before the camera goes down. You get a licensed plumber (Lic. No. L55), honest advice on clear-versus-repair rather than an automatic upsell to pipe replacement, no call-out fee, and a clean site afterwards.
We clear blocked drains across the Sutherland Shire, including Menai and Illawong, plus St George / Bayside and Canterbury-Bankstown.

FAQ
It depends on the blockage and how accessible the line is. There’s no call-out fee, and we give you an upfront price before starting — including telling you honestly if a clear will only last until the roots grow back.
No. Caustic drain cleaners might shift a minor sink clog, but they can’t touch a root mass or a collapsed pipe, and they corrode older pipework. They also make the line hazardous for the plumber who has to open it.
Yes — a CCTV drain camera shows the blockage, its exact location and depth, and the condition of the pipe. You see the footage too, so you’re not taking our word for what’s down there.
Not always. If the damage is confined to one or two joints, repairing or relining that section is usually enough. We’ll show you the camera footage and let you weigh up repeat clearing against a permanent fix.
Yes — sewage backing up into a home is an emergency and we respond 24/7 across the Sutherland Shire.
