Water Heater Installations & Hot Water Repairs

No hot water is one of those problems that goes from annoying to urgent by about the second cold shower. Accurate Plumbing handles water heater installations, repairs and replacements across the Sutherland Shire — gas, electric and continuous flow — with a 25-year workmanship warranty on installation work and 60 years of local experience behind it.

Repair or Replace? How to Decide

We’d rather fix your system than sell you a new one — but past a certain point, repairs stop making financial sense. The honest rule of thumb:
SituationUsually the answer
System under 8 years old, minor faultRepair — element, thermostat, valve or anode replacement
8–12 years old, first major faultJudgement call — depends on the part and the tank’s condition
Over 12 years oldReplace — tanks corrode from the inside and repairs won’t stop it
Leaking from the tank bodyReplace — a leaking tank cannot be repaired
Rusty or discoloured hot waterReplace — the internal lining has failed
Repeated repairs in 12 monthsReplace — you’re paying for a new system in instalments
A storage system typically lasts 10–15 years; continuous flow units often last longer. If you’ve reached the point of replacement, we’ll tell you straight rather than stringing out repairs.

Common Hot Water Repairs

Plenty of hot water faults are genuinely fixable, and we repair them the same day where parts allow:

  • No hot water at all — failed element, thermostat or pilot light
  • Hot water running out too fast — undersized system, failed lower element or a sediment-filled tank
  • Water too hot or not hot enough — thermostat calibration or a failed tempering valve
  • Leaking or dripping relief valve — usually a $100-ish part, not a new system
  • Water hammer or banging noises — sediment build-up or valve issues
  • Pilot light won’t stay lit on gas systems
  • Rusty or smelly hot water — a failed sacrificial anode, sometimes replaceable before the tank goes

Water Heater Installations

We supply and install every major type, and we’ll help you pick the right one for your household rather than the one with the best margin:

  • Gas storage — fast recovery, good for larger families with mains gas connected
  • Electric storage — lowest upfront cost; worth pairing with off-peak or solar
  • Continuous flow (instantaneous) gas — endless hot water, compact, no standing heat loss
  • Solar and heat pump — highest efficiency and eligible for government rebates
  • Gas room heaters and other gas appliance installations

Every installation is completed to Australian Standards by a licensed plumber and gas fitter (Lic. No. L55), includes safe removal and disposal of your old unit, and carries our 25-year workmanship warranty.

Sizing It Right

An undersized system is the most common reason people think their hot water “isn’t working” when it’s actually working exactly as specified. As a rough guide for storage systems: 1–2 people suits 125–160L (gas) or 160L (electric), 3–4 people suits 170–200L, and 5+ people needs 250L or more — or a continuous flow unit, which never runs out regardless of household size.
